Swimming

The Akron Family Aquatic Center opened July 15, 2023 after many years of fundraising efforts by members of the community.

The new 6,000+ square foot, 150,000-gallon Akron Family Aquatic Center replaces the former Akron City Pool which was originally constructed in 1954. The former pool was removed in 2021 due to deterioration and increasing daily water loss. The new facility was designed by ISG, Des Moines, Iowa, and was constructed by Christiansen Construction Company, Pender, Nebraska.

The ADA compliant, zero-depth swimming pool features:

·       Six large in-pool and deck shade umbrellas

·       Multiple spray play structures

·       Two slides

·       A one-meter diving board

·       Areas for conversation and relaxation throughout the pool area

·       New mechanical building and pump house for control room, chemicals, pumps, filters and other equipment

Along with a zero-depth entry, there are steps and a wheelchair ramp into the pool making it ADA compliant with easier access by all ages and those with disabilities. The existing bathhouse and concession stand was constructed in 2002 and was kept and remodeled.
