The Great Akron Scarecrow Festival & Contest takes place in the Akron City Park the third Saturday of September. Join our community and help us celebrate the commencement of the harvest season at this one-of-a-kind event. Our festival is family friendly so we have many activities for the young and old alike. All are invited to enter the Scarecrow Contest in which cash prizes are awarded and later the scarecrows are sold at auction with proceeds being donated to the GFWC/Iowa Friendship and Service Club.

The Akron Chapter of the GFWC/Iowa Friendship and Service Club first organized the Great Akron Scarecrow Festival and Contest in 2000. This non-profit club of 39 innovative women decided it was time to create a unique way to raise funds for the betterment of the Akron and Westfield communities. This group continues to pour many hours of organization and planning into the festival year after year. The citizens of the Akron area thank this group for their continued service.

GFWC/Iowa is proud to be a member of the largest and oldest volunteer organization in the world. Although there is a great diversity in ages, interests, areas of expertise and experience of GFWC/Iowa members, all are united by a dedication to implement charitable, educational, and service programs in the State.
