The department responds to calls for service in the largest fire district in the state of Iowa and covers nearly 365 square miles.<\/p><h2>Department Mission<\/h2><ul><li>Reduce and prevent the loss of life<\/li><li>Provide the highest quality pre-hospital patient care<\/li><li>Reduce and prevent property damage<\/li><li>Rescue, Search, &amp; Recovery<\/li><li>Protection of the environment<\/li><li>Community education and fire prevention<\/li><\/ul><p>The Akron Fire Department is composed of 45 volunteers that respond to calls for service utilizing 12 different apparatus and provide a wide variety of skills and special abilities. Some of the abilities include but are not limited to:<\/p><ul><li>Pre-hospital emergency patient care<\/li><li>Fire suppression<\/li><li>Wildland fire intervention<\/li><li>Vehicle extrication and rescue<\/li><li>High angle rope rescue<\/li><li>Hazardous Materials response<\/li><li>Search and recovery<\/li><\/ul><p>Additional Public Services Provided:<\/p><ul><li>Fire Extinguisher Training<\/li><li>Fire Prevention Demonstrations<\/li><li>Equipment Demonstrations<\/li><li>Evacuation Drills and Training<\/li><li>Building Evaluations and Inspections<\/li><li>Wildland Crop
