Historic Sargent Field is Akron's largest ball field. Sargent Field was constructed on land donated by the Sargent Family on the northwest side of Akron in the city park next to Iowa Highway 12. This field was built in the 1930's when baseball had a wide popularity. The old timers tell how thousands of fans would come to see the great Akron teams play. Players like Lefty Swift, Bob Tucker and Cliff Miller made Akron a well known baseball town. Sargent Field is the home of the Akron-Westfield Westerners baseball team and the Akron Rebels, an adult amateur baseball team. A grass infield, bleachers, field lighting, electronic scoreboard, restrooms, concessions, announcer's booth and warning track combine to create a field worthy of the names that have played here.

The dimensions are 319 ft down the left field line, 310 ft down the right field line and 350 ft to center field. The structure housing the concessions, announcers booth, and bathrooms was dedicated recently to the memory of Joe Loutsch a former A-W head baseball coach.

Bob Tucker Field, constructed in the early 1990's, is located on the south side of Akron along Iowa Highway 3 near the Akron Golf Course. Bob Tucker Field is used for girls softball and little league games. It is the home field of the Akron-Westfield Westerner girls's softball team. The fences are 180 ft down the lines and 220 ft to center field. Modern restrooms, field lights, concessions, comfortable bleachers, electronic scoreboard and announcer's booth make this field an ideal place to watch or play ball.

Lefty Swift Field is located above Bob Tucker field. It is a larger field used primarily for Little League Baseball. Lefty Swift Field is 250 ft down the lines and 259 ft to center. Constructed in the 1970's, it has a warning track, field lights, restrooms, electric scoreboard and concessions. Future plans call for construction of a new announcer's booth, restrooms, and concesssions at Lefty Swift.

All three Akron ball fields have irrigation systems and red ball diamond aggregated sports surfaces to maximize drainage when it rains and minimize injuries when sliding. We take pride in our Akron ball fields and spend many hours grooming and maintaining these fields. We hope you take time to enjoy a ball game at one of our ball parks this summer.
